How to Use the NEB GPA Calculator

Weighted Grade Point (WGP) = Subject Credit Hours × Subject Grade Point (GP)
Overall NEB GPA = Σ(Credit Hours × Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Total Credit Hours)

Worked Example (Class 12 Science Student — 27 Credit Hours):
- Compulsory English (4 credits, Grade A = 3.6 GP) → 4 × 3.6 = 14.4
- Compulsory Nepali (3 credits, Grade B+ = 3.2 GP) → 3 × 3.2 = 9.6
- Physics (5 credits, Grade A = 3.6 GP) → 5 × 3.6 = 18.0
- Chemistry (5 credits, Grade A+ = 4.0 GP) → 5 × 4.0 = 20.0
- Mathematics (5 credits, Grade A = 3.6 GP) → 5 × 3.6 = 18.0
- Computer Science (5 credits, Grade A+ = 4.0 GP) → 5 × 4.0 = 20.0
Total Weighted Points = 14.4 + 9.6 + 18.0 + 20.0 + 18.0 + 20.0 = 100.0
Overall NEB GPA = 100.0 ÷ 27 = 3.70 GPA
Frequently Asked Questions
NEB calculates overall GPA using credit-hour weighting. Each subject has a designated credit hour (such as 4 for Compulsory English, 3 for Compulsory Nepali, and 5 for optional subjects) multiplied by the subject Grade Point (WGP = Credit Hour × GP). Overall GPA equals Total WGP divided by Total Credit Hours.
Under the CDC National Curriculum Framework, Compulsory English is 4 credit hours, Compulsory Nepali is 3 credit hours, Social Studies / Life Skills or Compulsory Mathematics is 5 credit hours, and each of the three optional subjects carries 5 credit hours (typically totaling 27 credit hours).
Most universities in Nepal (TU, KU, PU, PoU) and the Medical Education Commission (MEC) require a minimum of Grade C in individual subjects and at least 2.0 to 2.4 overall GPA (or 50% aggregate) alongside passing the respective entrance exam.
An NG (Non-Graded, below 35% in theory) means the subject is incomplete. Students with NG in up to two subjects can sit for the NEB Grade Increment (Supplementary) Exam held shortly after results are published.
