How SEE GPA Is Calculated (Official NEB Grading Scale)
Under the Letter Grading Directive, 2078 BS enforced by the National Examinations Board (NEB) and Curriculum Development Centre (CDC) Nepal, each subject's percentage score is mapped to a discrete Grade Point on a 4.0 scale:
Overall SEE GPA = (Sum of Grade Points across All Subjects) ÷ (Total Number of Subjects)
Credit-Weighted GPA = Σ(Subject Credit Hours × Subject Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Total Credit Hours)
Credit-Weighted GPA = Σ(Subject Credit Hours × Subject Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Total Credit Hours)

SEE GPA Calculation Example
Suppose a Class 10 student scores the following marks in 6 SEE subjects:
- English: 82 marks → Grade A (3.6 GP)
- Nepali: 76 marks → Grade B+ (3.2 GP)
- Mathematics: 91 marks → Grade A+ (4.0 GP)
- Science: 85 marks → Grade A (3.6 GP)
- Social Studies: 78 marks → Grade B+ (3.2 GP)
- Optional Mathematics: 88 marks → Grade A (3.6 GP)
Total Grade Points: 3.6 + 3.2 + 4.0 + 3.6 + 3.2 + 3.6 = 21.2
Overall SEE GPA: 21.2 ÷ 6 = 3.53 GPA (Grade A)
Important Notes on Theory & Practical Grading
In official NEB board examinations, theory (usually 75 marks) and internal/practical (usually 25 marks) components are graded separately on the certificate before computing the combined subject grade:
- A student must achieve at least 35% in the Theory exam (minimum 27 out of 75) and 40% in the Practical exam (minimum 10 out of 25).
- If a student scores 24 out of 25 in practicals but only 20 out of 75 in theory, the theory component is marked NG (Non-Graded) even though the sum is 44.

Frequently Asked Questions
Under the National Examinations Board (NEB) Letter Grading Directive 2078 BS (enforced in 2080/2081/2082 BS), students must secure at least 35% in the theoretical examination (e.g., 27 out of 75 marks) and 40% in internal/practical evaluation (10 out of 25 marks) to receive a letter grade (Grade D, 1.6 GP).
NG stands for Non-Graded (अवर्गीकृत). Any subject in which a student scores below 35% is marked as NG with 0.0 Grade Point. Students with NG in one or more subjects must clear those subjects in the SEE Grade Increment (Supplementary) Examination to enroll in Class 11.
Each subject mark (out of 100) is first converted into its corresponding Grade Point on the 4.0 scale (for example, 80–89% = 3.6 GP, 90–100% = 4.0 GP). The overall GPA is the average of the grade points across all subjects.
