The word percent comes from the Latin per centum, meaning "by the hundred." Every percentage problem expresses a dimensionless ratio scaled to a denominator of 100:
1. X is what % of Y: Percentage = (X ÷ Y) × 100
2. Percentage Change: % Change = ((Final Value − Initial Value) ÷ |Initial Value|) × 100
3. Marks Percentage: % Marks = (Obtained Marks ÷ Total Full Marks) × 100

To find what percentage a part (X) is of a whole (Y), divide X by Y and multiply the result by 100: Percentage = (X / Y) × 100.
Divide your total obtained marks by the maximum full marks of the exam and multiply by 100. For example, 640 marks out of 800 equals (640 / 800) × 100 = 80%.
